IMMIGRANT - paintings, pastels and installation by Rosemary Sloot
On display in Gallery 1 until October 11
London, Ontario artist Rosemary Sloot has been making art for many years.
Before her mother died in 2003, the artist discovered that her mother's only regret in life was immigrating to Canada from Holland. Rosemary's response to this shocking news eventually inspired an exhibition she called IMMIGRANT, which travelled throughout Ontario over a decade ago. We are thrilled to be able to showcase a selection of work from that original show here at the Parrott Gallery.
This series of paintings and installation speaks to the common universal themes of loss, uprootedness, family and individual identity, sacrifice, persistence, hope and faith.
Studio Time - pastels by Erika Olson
On display in Gallery 2 until October 11
Kingston artist Erika Olson has taken a break from painting to work on pastels.
Erika layers her pastels, creating bright planes of colour. The compositions are abstracted and playful in their purposeful distortion, and the objects take on a life of their own.
