Belleville Public Library and John M. Parrott Art Gallery
May 22, 2020 - Plans for accepting returns and pick-up service
We are working hard to prepare the library to accept the return of borrowed items. Our customers have more than 10,000 borrowed items to return, so preparation is required to ensure that we can accept them back safely. All items returned to the library will be put into a quarantine for at least 72 hours to ensure they are safe to be handled and ready to be borrowed. Our number one priority is the health and safety of our staff and customers.
We will begin accepting returns of borrowed items starting Wednesday June 3. From that date on, returns will be accepted between 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., Monday – Thursday, and between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. No returns will be accepted outside of those hours initially, to allow us time to manage and quarantine the high volume of items. We look forward to making our return bins available after hours as soon as possible. Also please note that returns will not be accepted at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre until further notice.
To assist library staff with the process of accepting returns, we ask that customers with last names starting with A-L return their items on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Customers with last names starting with M-Z are asked to return their items from Thursday to Saturday. We know this will not always be possible.
Remember, we are not able to accept any returns until Wednesday, June 3, and after that we will only be accepting returns during the hours listed above.
All associated fines and fees will be removed from your card after we receive your item returns and have allowed them to sit in quarantine for at least three days.
While we always appreciate donations of gently used books and DVDs, we will not be accepting any item donations until further notice.
Watch for an announcement about curbside item pick-up service, which we will offer soon now that it has been permitted by the Province of Ontario. Stay tuned to our website, social media, and to the Belleville Intelligencer for information about how and when we will begin offering item pickup service.
We will not be able to offer our inter-library loan service just yet. If you have borrowed inter-library loans, please return them with your other items after June 3.
We miss our customers and look forward to seeing you all again soon. We have been touched by the many kind messages about how people miss their library and gallery. We are working hard to prepare for the safe return of staff and borrowed items and look forward to the day when we can return to our normal open hours.
As soon as it is allowed and safe to do so, we will return to our full range of services, including browsing collections, lounge and play space, public computers, programs, workshops, technology training, art exhibitions and sales, room rentals and more. Until then, take care and stay vigilant with measures to avoid spreading COVID-19.
The Library has been working alongside our City partners to closely monitor developments and information about the coronavirus (COVID-19). Based on direction from the Library Board and from the City of Belleville, and out of concern for our customers and staff, effective Tuesday March 17th, Belleville Public Library and John M. Parrott Art Gallery will be closed to the public until further notice.
During the closure:
- Staff will be available to respond to customer inquiries by phone or by email while we are closed to ensure that all residents have access to the wide range of digital products we have available
- Please keep all borrowed library items at home and do not return them until the facility re-opens
- All due dates and fines will be suspended or cleared when we reopen, and borrowed materials will not accrue fines
- Staff will endeavour to ensure that items on hold available for pickup remain on the hold shelf for use once we re-open to the public
- The facility will be undergoing extensive cleaning
There are many digital resources and online services that the Library provides that offer a wide variety of educational and recreational experiences. Please visit our Virtual Branch and check them out!
If customers are having trouble accessing online services, or have questions about the closure of the facility, they can call 613-968-6731 ext. 2021, or email firstname.lastname@example.org
We encourage residents to regularly check the information being provided by Hastings Prince Edward Public Health.
