Family History Day 2019

Do you enjoy researching your family history? Or are thinking about getting started but want to learn more? Come visit the Belleville Public Library on Sat. May 25th 10-4 for Family History Day 2019! There will be four sessions that will cover Loyalist ancestry, Social Media for Genealogists, English records, and DNA explained. This is a FREE event and requires no registration. Space is limited. Call 613-968-6731 x 2037 for more information. See below for the tentative speaking schedule:

10:00 am - Making English Connections - speaker Bob Dawes

  • There are lots of free and paid resources for doing English family History. This presentation will examine what English records are available, where to find them and how to use both free and paid websites.  A case study will demonstrate using the reviewed websites to fill in missing family information.

11:25 am - Loyal, Enduring, Thankful: Three Loyalist Women – speaker Cheryl Levy, PLCGS

  • Our female Loyalist ancestors were forever impacted as their families were uprooted and thrust into adventure, tragedy and relocation following the American Revolution (Case Study).

LUNCH – 12:45-1:30 pm (not provided – bring your own or visit one of our local downtown eateries!)

1:30 pm - Facebook and Social Media for Genealogy – speaker Cheryl Levy, PLCGS

  • Using online communication tools for genealogical research and collaboration, especially with newly discovered extended family members and virtual genealogy communities.

2:40 pm - DNA Explained – speaker Bob Dawes

  • DNA is complicated and hard to understand.  This presentation reviews the most popular tests and examines what to expect from your test results. It will show you how to analyze your results and use them to find others who share a common ancestor with you.
