International Women’s Day is March 8th. This year, the Belleville International Women’s Day Committee is pleased to welcome Cyndy Baskin of Ryerson University. Ms. Baskin will speak about the historical roles of Indigenous women prior to European contact, how colonization shattered their identities through the Indian Act, and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action in terms of violence towards Indigenous women. On Thursday, March 8th, join us at 4:30 at the Library for the annual Women’s Day March through downtown, followed by refreshments and social hour at 5:00, and a talk by Ms. Baskin at 6:00 pm. Bring your friends and family and help us celebrate women around the world. No registration is required for this free event.
