LIFT WORKSHOPS

A new partnership in 2015 with the Liaison for Independent Filmmakers of Toronto (LIFT) has a 6-part workshop series coming to the region throughout the year. We were chosen as one of four communities across Ontario to receive LIFT’s travelling workshops and are excited to offer the first two before and after DocFest weekend.

Introduction to Independent Dramatic Filmmaking (6 hours)

Location: Belleville Public Library (3rd Floor Meeting Room)

Cost: $60 / $40 students

Snapshot: This lecture-based course gives participants an overview of all the stages involved in independent dramatic filmmaking and is a must for beginning directors and producers of fiction films. Learn about the screenwriting process, planning your workflow, prepping for your shoot, crewing up, casting, the fundamentals of production, basic cinematography, the importance of sound, getting all your shots, how to approach editing and the many options for finishing and exhibiting your film. This workshop is a general overview for new filmmakers and a great starting point for your filmmaking education as it pertains to dramatic filmmaking.

Igor DrljacaInstructor: Igor Drljaca (http://www.igordrljaca.com/)

Bio: Born in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Igor Drljaca moved to Canada in 1993 with his family because of the war. He completed his Master’s in Film Production at York University’s graduate program in 2011. His 2010 short film, Woman in Purple was made as part of the Sarajevo City of Film Grant, and has screened at dozens of international festivals, including Telluride Film Festival, Tampere Film Festival, Palm Springs Shortfest, and Sarajevo FF. While primarily a fiction filmmaker, he continues to explore new territories and make hybrid and non-fiction work. The Fuse: Or How I Burned Simon Bolivar is his first non-fiction film, and was chosen as one of Canada’s Top Ten short films of 2011. It has screened at various festivals including; Toronto IFF, SXSW, Melbourne IFF, Cinema du Reel, Los Angeles FF, Sarajevo FF, and Era New Horizons FF.  Krivina marks his feature film debut, premiering in 2012 at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Special Screening: Igor will screen his film KRIVINA in Belleville, the night before the workshop: Friday, March 6th at The Core at 7pm. The cost is $5.
